At RASD, environmental and climate justice is not an extension of environmental management but a distinct focus on how the benefits and burdens of environmental protection and climate change are shared. Our principles call for equitable policies, inclusive participation, and the protection of vulnerable groups who face disproportionate exposure to pollution, disasters, and the impacts of a changing climate. These principles drive how we frame advocacy, build partnerships, and support community resilience. Our goal is to ensure that those most affected by climate and environmental risks are active participants in defining solutions, not passive recipients of aid.
Our Approaches:
• Participatory knowledge generation
• Policy localisation
• Rights-based advocacy
• Public awareness and dialogue for capacity strengthening
Through these actions, RASD seeks to complement the government’s, communities’, and other civil societies’ efforts to make Sierra Leone a country where environmental and climate justice are embedded in governance and everyday practice. We envision a society where every community, regardless of income or geography, can influence decisions that shape its future and benefit from equitable outcomes.
